Potted history and archive photographs with well-researched captions of these two settlements near York, close to each other but very different.

Haxby was an ancient agricultural village now a dormitory town while New Earswick was Joseph Rowntree's industrial model village.

The Haxby section deals with many different aspects of the town including some interesting photos of businesses from the 1970s and their origins.

The New Earswick section deals with Rowntree's vision, how it was realised and how the town subsequently developed.
